In the spring 2010, the AYSO Region 71 Board adopted an annual scholarship award to be given to 6 exiting U-19 players (3 women and 3 men). The amount of each scholarship is $150. This award will be called the Linda Cleal Scholarship Award.

Linda was the wife of longtime AYSO Region 71 volunteer Bruce Cleal. Linda lost her battle to cancer in the spring of 2009. Bruce has been a member of the AYSO family for over 24 years and a Board Member for over 21 years. During that time he has volunteered for Board Member, Assistant Coach, Head Coach, Tournament Coach, Field and Equipment Coordinator, Assistant Regional Referee Administrator and  Area  Referee Administrator. This is the inaugural year for which we will be honoring the Cleal Family and Bruce’s wife Linda.

Each candidate will have participated in at least one previous season in Region 71 and will be active in the current season. Previous award winners are ineligible. Award winners will be determined by a committee comprised of Region 71 Board Members. All candidates will be evaluated on their sportsmanship, contribution to their community and post-graduation academic interests
