Once again we will be using MySoccerLeauge.com as the referee scheduling system for Region 71. New referees that have not already registered on the MySoccerleauge.com site will receive an email with your login credentials.
Typical Questions
1. How to Register
To register, you have to send an email to your ref coordinator telling them you'd like to ref in their league. They will need your name, email address, and your license info. Something about your reffing experience will be helpful to them. When they add you to their list, you'll automatically get a welcoming email from MySoccerLeague.com with your user name and password. You will then be able to sign up for games.
2. How to Sign Up for Games
After you log in, you'll see a list of things you can do. Go to "All Referee Assignments" to see the list of games that are being played. If you see a game you want, click the "I'll Take It" or "I'd Like It" button. If the button says "I'll Take It", that means you have just assigned yourself to that game. If the button says "I'd Like It", that means that you have requested the assignment, and a referee assignor will hopefully assign you to that slot now that they know you are available for it. You will get a reminder before the game, for most leagues 3 days before your match. You can also check your current assignments by clicking on "My Current Assignments".
3. How to Cancel Matches
To cancel a match, click the Cancel button on the My Current Assignments screen. If there is no Cancel button, that means that you must call or email a referee assignor to cancel that match.
WARNING: You should only rarely cancel a match once you have accepted it, especially if it is coming up soon. Cancelling matches, except for emergencies, is not generally appreciated.
4. Setting Your Comfort Level
Click on Edit Information. There, you can set your comfort level, so that MySoccerLeague.com and your ref coordinator will know what are good games for you. For example, you might set your comfort level to centering U-14 Girls Recreational games. (Note that the ref coordinator can have their own setting for you, based on what they believe is a good level of games for you to ref.)
5. Etiquette
Most people prefer to center games over being an AR. Still, try to sign up for those AR's when you see one is needed in a game just before or after you center. It is an enormous help to the league when you do that. Another point to consider is that if all the slots are getting assigned in your league, and there are people on the waiting list, don't grab all five U-12 girls games at some field, leave some of those for other refs. Now, on the other hand, if your league is having trouble getting all the games covered, then feel free to sign up for any game you can do.
Thanks for being a referee. Good referees really help the kids have fun out there!
