REFEREE POINT SYSTEM – REGION 71
GOAL: Develop referees and ensure all matches have Referee coverage.
To qualify for play-offs, each 10U-14U team must earn the following amount of referee points:
· 10U – 60 points,
· 12U – 70 points and
· 14U – 80 points.
Rules and Procedures:
1. All referees must complete a volunteer application via Sports Connect (www.Region71.org) for the current season and be up to date in:
a. On-line courses (AYSOU) - Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, & Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
b. SafeSport - see links provided in www.region71.org.
c. LiveScan/fingerprinting along with providing the information required to Sterling Volunteers for a background check.
d. Referee Training: Region 71 will offer new referee training on-line and in-person.
2. Referees may award their points to a team that a family member who plays on. In the event the referee has more than one team that is being supported; their points will be allocated to the team most in need of points toward the end of the season. Referees should let the Statistician know of these situations.
a. A coach who referees and does not have a family member playing may assign their points to their team.
b. Referees should note the team they wish their points to be assigned on the back of the game card used for each match. Clearly notate the division, age, gender and team number (if unsure write the coach’s name). Points are posted weekly, please check the website and let the Statistician know of any discrepancies.
3. Referee points are earned by:
a. Training:
i. Five points for attending Law Day (Coaches and Assistant Coaches).
ii. Five points for attending Law Day (Referees) and refereeing at least one match.
iii. Five points for attending an AYSO sponsored referee course or clinic and refereeing at least one match.
b. Refereeing:
i. Five points are earned for refereeing 8U-19U matches including VIP matches.
c. Board members
i. Active Board Members (at discretion of the Executive Board) may earn up to 10 points for their child’s team.
